Ever Since "The Guys" premiered September 11th, 2003, Joe Martuccio dreamed of bringing it back to life again!
Anne Nelson's play was written in just nine days, centering on a slice of the aftermath of the tragedy of 9/11. Nick, a fire captain, who lost eight men in the collapse of The World Trade Center, enlists help from an editor, Joan, to prepare their eulogies. Nick builds a relationship with Joan, who helps him put together the difficult, heartfelt speeches that he must deliver with honor, humor and poise -- all the while, navigatiing his way through his own emotional response. The play opened at Tribeca's off-off-Broadway's The Flea, with Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray, playing its two characters just 12 weeks following the tragedy. Their names and the play's timeliness were the magnet for people to come. Subsequently, it was made into a move starring Anthony LaPaglia and Sigourney Weaver.
