Staged reading of “Smartphones, a pocket size farce” by Emilio Williams July 20, 2011

This one-act play is a madcap comedy about two couples waiting for a mysterious friend. The play is both a parody as well as a tribute to the great Theatre of the Absurd and the surrealist films of Luis Buñuel. Cultural critic, Luis Maria Anson, raved, “The author has placed a mirror between Samuel Beckett and Yasmina Reza to reflect the new realities of human relationships. He has threaded together perfect-pitched dialogue with profound thoughts and social criticism.”
Spanish playwright, Emilio Williams, was featured at the Teatro Stage Fest of New York as one of the most promising new voices of the Spanish stage. Last year, his comedy, “Tables and Beds” (Camas y Mesas), was selected among 80 plays from 12 countries as the winner of the 4th Premio del Espectáculo Teatral. The play opened during Madrid’s Alternative Theatre Festival to both audience and critical acclaim. The play continues to run in Madrid at the Teatro Arenal and also represented Spain in the recent 2011 edition of the International Voices Project in Chicago.
