You are invited...
To a Holiday Show of the Strangest Kind!
The North Pole has a meth lab problem.
The Chinese think Elvis is our Lord.
Seriously.
STAGE SESSIONS
Friday, December 8th, at the Fitzgerald Theater
With Heather McElhatton and Bill Holm
It's an MPR broadcast
Come be a part of the show!
I, Heather McElhatton, will tell the story of my recent dog mushing trip to the city of North Pole, Alaska. A city with peppermint striped fire hydrants and a serious meth lab problem. A city where I lost all of the sled dogs I was running -70K worth of dogs gone, over the horizon and thru the (crystal meth littered) woods.
Bill Holm tells about his Chinese hosts, who gave him a Christmas tree and decorated it with strange things they thought Americans would like, including an Elvis tree topper. He'll tell about how his mother decorated the house with glitter toilet paper tubes and about the Christmas he spent on an Icelandic fishing ship singing to the sea.
Poet Phebe Hansen reads a poem about deciding to divorce her husband on Christmas day. One of those defining and (as always) ill-timed moments when "you know" what's got to be done.
There'll be music! Duluth Bluesman Charlie Parr will do an east-meets-west hauntingly beautiful duet with Indian vocalist Nirmala Rajasekar. Singing Chanteuse Karen Paurus will perform along with the Robert Bell Trio and 14-year-old AdriAnne Lenker has her radio debut!
