Artist reception Saturday, May 7, 6-8pm, exhibit runs May 3-27
Market Street Gallery is pleased to present Spring of Happiness a solo exhibition by Japanese Designer/Artist, Tomoko Maruyama, opening May 3, 2011, and running through May 27, 2011. The artist reception will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2011, from 6 PM - 8 PM.
Tomoko Maruyama loves San Francisco. Being in this city gives her plenty of inspiration for her designs. This ranges from the selection of her design colors to that je ne sais quoi that motivates her in every design. Tomoko Maruyama is hoping her designs would inspire the same feelings of happiness she has for being in this magnificent city.
Tomoko Maruyama's design style is distinct because she tries to evoke feelings of warmth, peace and happiness. She uses a palette of natural colors and shades that reflect her daily experience in San Francisco. She starts each design with a very rough sketch using paper and pencil. Even though the sketch is not perfect, she continues working on the design with her computer. The technique and computerized tools she uses, give her the flexibility to modify her design lines and colors any time so she can keep the ideas flowing and she can design exactly what she feels.
Tomoko Maruyama's current work is inspired by the spring in San Francisco which, for her, is the most enjoyable season in California. She created her designs so the viewer can feel "Spring" through the elegant lines depicting the soft winds and waves typical of the season. She wants to show that people, animals, birds, tree and flowers are happy to live in San Francisco.
