Named Charlotte?s best local music event by Creative Loafing magazine, Spread Your Wings? Benefit Concert to Fight Breast Cancer celebrates its fifth-anniversary concert on Sat., Sept. 17, 2005, at The Neighborhood Theatre (511 E. 36th Street, Charlotte, NC). Doors open at 5 p.m. with music beginning at 6 p.m. Since its beginnings in 2001, the benefit concert has contributed more than $70,000 to cancer-fighting programs. Proceeds from the concert and silent auction benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation of Charlotte.

The concert brings the brightest and best in contemporary high-energy music to Charlotte's North Davidson's arts district. Headlining this year's concert is Alejandro Escovedo, one of the most critically acclaimed artists in contemporary music. Hailed by Rolling Stone music critic David Fricke for creating "his own genre," Escovedo was named No Depression magazine's Artist of the Decade for the 1990s. Kevin Gordon & Band, David Childers & the Modern Don Juans and the Jon Dee Graham Band will also perform.
