James Surls (b.1943) has been carving and hacking, burning, peeling, and shaping pieces of wood into monumental and enigmatic sculptures for over 35 years, combining abstract forms with recognizable images. This selection of Surls's work will be on view in honor of the artist's upcoming visit to LSU as part of the College of Art and Design's annual Manship Lecture Series.
