Unlike some plays which have you puzzling the meaning of the title, the short tag of Michael Weller's marital comedy in two acts is as obvious as it is apt. It revolves around the split-up of twenty-something Carol and Paul, and the ripple effect of the breakup on the friends who have idealized them as "the perfect couple."
The breakup of the "perfect couple" stuns and unsettles their immediate circle of friends. Toss in one overly complicated Japanese game, a couple of married swingers and a few obscure frog references and what you have is a serious comedy about life's salad. While obscure and hilariously funny, Split takes a close look at relationships and the inability to work through the difficulties that come with marriage.
