Spirits From the Sky: Thunder on the Land March 13, 2010

The Pawnee lived in what are now Nebraska and northern Kansas from the 1600's to 1876. Skidi priests observed the appearance of planets, stars, constellation patterns, and other astronomical phenomena occurring in predictable seasonal sequences. Their culture was built upon the legends and lores that grew out of these observations. The sky program endeavors to capture and preserve this cultural sky tradition.
