Seldom offered to the public--signed release required. Railroad motor cars, also called "speeders", are the way that track crews used to travel. These days, most railroads don't use speeders. They have converted to "high-railers," or pickup trucks with flanged wheels at each end, to carry their work crews on the rails or the highways. Now, the Niles Canyon Railway presents an opportunity to ride the rails the way that track gangs used to travel. Speeder rides will be offered to the public for a unique railroad experience.
