In celebration of Air Force Week and in recognition of the intersection between filmmaking and space exploration, the Art Center College of Design Undergraduate Film Department invites you to attend a special screening of the Academy Award®-winning film Apollo 13.
The screening will be preceded by opening remarks from representatives of the entertainment industry, United States Air Force and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. In addition, prototype lunar rovers and public awareness campaigns created by Art Center students who took part in NASA’s recent Sponsored Projects will be on display.
Made in close collaboration between the entertainment industry and NASA, Universal Pictures’ Apollo 13 received critical acclaim for its scientific and historic accuracy. The movie, directed by Ron Howard with an ensemble cast starring Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan, tells the dramatic true story of the aborted Apollo 13 space mission. The film’s cinematographer, Dean Cudley, ASC, is a part-time faculty member at Art Center.
The screening takes place during the Air Force Film Festival, which is held in conjunction with Air Force Week (airforceweek.com), an outreach program showcasing the critical role the Air Force plays in serving America.
