Meet and speak with the Oscar-winning Director of Departures, Yojiro Takita
The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) and the Japan Foundation present a special screening of the 2008 Academy Award-winning masterpiece, Departures. The screening will be a particularly special event as the director, Yojiro Takita, will introduce his film, take questions after the movie and participate in an informal post-film reception. Departures has also received 10 Japanese Academy Awards.
The film stars Masahiro Motoki as a professional cellist who returns to his old hometown with his wife and becomes a "Nokanshi" or "encoffineer," a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life. The film follows his profound and sometimes comical journey with death as he uncovers the wonder, joy and meaning of life and living.
