Special Lecture: Esther Adler on Drawing in the 20th Century March 23, 2011

Esther Adler discusses the exhibition On Line: Drawing Through the Twentieth Century which aims to challenge the accepted definition of drawing as simply a work on paper. This lecture traces the emergence of line from the picture plane early in the century to the political and digital implications of line in the present time, making an argument for a reconsideration of the idea of drawing, and its fundamental position at the heart of twentieth century art. Esther Adler is a curatorial assistant in the Department of Drawings at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and worked on On Line.
