Southwest Chamber Music presents Wadada Leo Smith's Black Church String Quartet March 7, 2009

Two versions of American faith open the program, with the solid Protestant hymn-tunes of New England providing Ives’s music with its flavor, while Wadada Leo Smith’s work celebrates the struggle and achievements of the Black Church. Dvořák’s Quintet has the earthy melodies of the Czech Republic in its heart and soul.
