This is a poignant, witty, late-in-life love story between two seventy-ish singles who meet purely by chance. Starring Gus, the “Yankee” curmudgeon and neat-freak, and sassy southern belle Amanda.
Church-goer Gus, a retired stone mason and World War II veteran is wary of change and risk and disinclined to leave his New Jersey home. Amanda, a charming Tennessee lady with a vein of iron determination is visiting her daughter (who attends the same church as Gus) and finds herself knocking on his door to collect a contribution for the church and remind him to attend services. Love may not strike like a bolt of lightning but a severe thunderstorm and a ball game with several tense innings to go, keep Amanda at Gus’s long enough for something to flicker between these two lonely hearts.
This retired set-in-his-ways Yankee, and saucy southern belle used to getting her way, find in each other what they least expected, a second chance at love. Filled with sweet surprise, cozy charm, great humor and poignancy, SOUTHERN COMOFRTS proves that it’s never too late in life to mend the holes in your heart.
