On September 17, 2011, larger than normal numbers of neighbors from nearby and far away communities are expected in Savannah for the SOUTHEAST GEORGIA FIREFIGHTER COMBAT CHALLENGE.
“I expect there will be more onlookers than usual – those wanting to say ‘Thank you!', in part because Patriot’s Day (9/11) will have been their recent reminder. Since September 11th, Americans have a renewed respect for the dedication of firefighters. In the Pink Fire Truck campaign, we found an enthusiastic public, eager to cheer firefighters on. This is the community's new chance to show their appreciation” says event organizer, Shane Shifflett.
Wearing protective gear that weighs an average of fifty pounds, firefighters from around the southeast will use speed, safety, efficiency, stamina, agility, and strength in essential firefighting maneuvers. “These guys and gals are out to prove they are the best of the best among their colleagues across America,” Shifflett adds.
Savannah Mall is hosting the free community event. “We encourage families to bring the children. How fun it is to see our neighbor heroes up close, in action,” says Senea Crystal, Marketing Manager . “We think they will be inspired by the firefighters’ skills and their enthusiasm to be great public protectors.”
For the public, the day of events is free. There will be youngster activities, refreshments, and public safety displays. There is a nominal registration fee for firefighters. Details and registration is online -- www.GaPinkTruck.org.
Located in southwest Savannah close to bedroom communities in southeast Georgia and South Carolina’s Low Country, there is easy access to Savannah Mall.
