Experience the wines of South Africa at GEJA’S CAFÉ’S
SOUTH AFRICAN WINE FESTIVAL
September 1-November 30, 2009
Chicago--Guests of Geja’s Café, 340 W. Armitage, will enjoy many flavorful wines from South Africa during the fondue restaurant’s South African Wine Festival from September 1-November 30, 2009.
The winemaking traditions of South Africa often represent a hybridization of Old World wine making and new. Since the end of Apartheid, many producers have been working on producing a more "international style" of wine. Establishing new laws to help dictate quality and recent access to international markets has unleashed a burst of new energy, investment and interest.
“I was surprised to learn that South Africa has been producing wine since 1659” says Kirby Matthews, Geja’s Wine Director. “They’ve been overlooked in the world market for so long. It is a shame because after tasting the featured wines, I am committed to making them commonplace on Geja’s wine list. I hope our guests are as excited as I am to experience new wines from an old world”.
Throughout the festival, Geja’s wine list will feature an extended selection of South African wines available both by the glass and the bottle at low promotional prices.
Among the featured wines will be:
Whites Vintage Glass Bottle
Fleur du Cap Sauvignon Blanc, Western Cape 2007 10.00 39.00
Meerlust Chardonnay, Stellenbosch 2006 9.00 38.00
Nederburg “Lyric” White Blend, Western Cape 2006 7.25 28.00
Reds
Fleur du Cap Pinotage, Stellenbosch 2007 7.50 29.00
Guardian Peak “Frontier” Red Blend, Western Cape 2007 7.75 30.00
Plaisir de Merle Cabernet Sauvignon, Paarl 2002 N/A 60.00
Known for romantic fondue dining—food one prepares and shares—and an extensive list of moderately priced wines, Geja’s features over 20 combinations of fondue entrees in addition to traditional cheese fondue and flaming chocolate dessert fondue. A cozy wine cellar atmosphere, private booths and candlelight contribute to its intimate surroundings, with live flamenco and classical guitarists performing on weekends to enhance the ambiance.
Hours for Geja’s Café are: Monday through Thursday, 5 to 10:00 p.m.; Friday, 5 p.m. to 11p.m.; Saturday, 5 p.m. to 11:30; and Sunday, 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Valet parking is available.
