Hundredth Monkey Productions, LLC presents Sound Spectrum: An Electro Disco Dance Party with Chicago’s The Coop and Madison’s own DJ P-Kayne in a special Late Show for all ages at Madison’s popular Majestic Theatre on Friday, August 27th.
Just off the Square, at 115 King Street, Madison, the recently re-modeled Majestic Theatre with its state of the art sound system is earning a reputation for cutting edge entertainment and is the perfect venue for this high energy dance party and guaranteed to be not yo mama’s disco. The Sound Spectrum show features an incendiary light show combined with dancetastic beats and grooves and promises an atmosphere of fun, fellowship and funk.
Celebrating the return of the students and the brisk energies of autumn Hundredth Monkey Productions welcomes The Coop, a four piece project that combines traditional instrumentation with on-stage production to create a true fusion of electronic sensibilities and organic live music. Hailing from Chicago, a modern hub for both live and electronic music and taking cues from accomplished artists such as Frank Zappa, STS9, Weather Report and Thievery Corporation, The Coop constructs original works by focusing on the balance of both improvisation and composition. Combining elements of today’s electronic music styles with classic sounds of rock, jazz, dub, funk and reggae keeps the group’s sound in a constant state of change. “We really try not to let pre-conceived genres limit the music we create. Each member of the band has their own influences, and these differences are what make things really interesting for all of us,” explains drummer Jake Barinholtz.
The Coop has been a staple at Chicago venues and has shared the stage with such notables as Vibesquad, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Savoy, Bluetech, Emancipator, PrepSchool, Hulk, to name a few, and looks forward to opening for The New Deal and playing a host of festivals in the remainder of 2010 including Wuhnurth, The Werk Out and many more. With such a diverse, developed sound this young quartet has quickly evolved into a driving musical force in Chicago and the Midwest.
Getting the party started and setting the tone for fun with flavor, P-Kayne will kick off the night with, as he puts it, “TurboCrunk/GlitchStep Mashup fused with hip hop from the early 90s to today, providing a hyphy-electro dance party.”
In 2009 P-Kayne discovered Ableton, a super program for DJ’s and producers. He found a new way to approach the DJ scene and was hooked immediately. He has played at clubs such as Apartment 720 in Milwaukee, Tru in Indianapolis and Madison’s. He has played at The Kinetic Playground in Chicago, opening for Alex B, Two Fresh, Eliot Lipp, Lazer Sword, MartyParty and Nasty Nasty among others. P-Kayne is a unique, high-energy musical experience so get your good shoes on, get ready to lean and don’t miss this party!
