Augustana Arts kicks off the 2011-12 season with Barbershop harmony. Sound of the Rockies performs "Letter to America" on Friday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Avenue, Denver. Under the direction of Darin Drown & Chris Vaughn, the "Letter to America" concert will include many all-time favorites, such as An American Trilogy, Colorado, My Home, Fanfare for the Common Man and Ave Maria. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for students/seniors; children 5-12 yrs $8 and are available at the door, by calling 303-892-5922 or online at www.augustanaarts.org.
Established in the 1940's, the Sound of the Rockies (an all a cappella men's chorus) is the performing unit of the Denver Mile High Chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society and part of the largest all-male singing organization in the world. The Sound of the Rockies has placed in the top five choruses at international-level competition for the last five years. Regionally, they have won 1st place in the Rocky Mountain District Competition each year for the last decade. In July of 2011, they placed third in the International Barbershop Harmony Society’s Competition!

Darin Drown is in his 11th year as Musical Director of Sound of the Rockies and has been instrumental in leading the chorus to international recognition as one of the top performers in the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Darin sings baritone for his current quartet, Storm Front, which won the International Barbershop Harmony contest in 2010 and will forever be remembered as one of the funniest and most entertaining quartets of all time.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a music educator for the past 19 years, he is currently the Director of Vocal Music at Grandview High School in Aurora, CO.
Founded in 1938 in Tulsa, Okla., the Barbershop Harmony Society is the largest all-male singing organization in the world with nearly 30,000 members including 1,500 quartets in 800 chapters. BHS is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and is home to the Old Songs Library, the world’s largest privately held collection of sheet music, containing 750,000 sheets and 125,000 titles from the heyday of Tin Pan Alley. The Heritage Hall Museum of Barbershop Harmony, also located in Harmony Hall, serves as a repository for barbershop memorabilia, early recordings, costumes, research materials, and historical documents tracing the roots of the barbershop style. www.barbershop.org
