The book of Psalms is some compilation - in 150 poems it covers a vast sweep of human experience. Remarkably, its rich metaphors resonate through 3000 years of our attempts to make sense of the world, and increasingly, as people become suspicious of contrived religiosity, these ancient texts speak of an authentic spirituality which feels, at times, so elusive in a 'fast faith' culture.

Soulgait brings this to the Fringe, facilitating a public engagement with the texts that bypasses the vestibule of the congregation. With a respectful lightness of touch, Soulgait uses Edinburgh's history to highlight the timelessness of these texts. Everyman and an observer explore the recurring themes of disorientation and reorientation, injustice and justice, betrayal and trust through traditional and contemporary musical settings of the Psalms, and through a narrative which connects the experiences of people throughout time.
