Sopchoppy Wakulla County Photography Contest: Award Celebration

The Sopchoppy Wakulla County Photography Contest was initiated in May 2011 as a means to create a photograph album on the Sopchoppy Florida facebook site that would demonstrate the beauty, diversity and uniqueness of our region. This contest was open to “friends” (members) of the Sopchoppy Florida facebook site and ran from May 1 to July 1 2011.

The Contest was formulated by Salli Squitieri and Gabriel Butterfield the proprietors of The Frog and The Hummingbird Co & Butterfield’s Roadhouse and administrators of the Sopchoppy Florida Facebook site. The contest was open to anyone with a camera including throw away cameras…and was an excellent opportunity for amateur photographers.

The Categories included: The Most Original/Unique, The Best Representation of Sopchoppy. The Best Representation of Wakulla County, Artistic View,
The Funniest, Wakulla Has Talent, Ecotourism, Wildlife, Anything Goes and more.

Winners of this contest include: Misty Penley, Susan Schatzman, Monique Jackson, Melissa Starbuck, Joan Harlow, Robert Gene Surber, Chris Coxwell, Lori Volano, Angie Hodges Nichols, Jessica Gaboury, Angela Barton, Wendy Morgan, Denise and Eric Trice, Tina S Mark and Jennifer Bohannon/Tim Haney.

The Photographs will be used for promotional purposes for our community and region and posted on various sites that Salli and Gabriel are developing and/or contributing to and in regards to enhancing awareness of our region.

The photographs are featured in a photo album on the Sopchoppy Florida Facebook site. It was a fun free endeavor and was open to everyone and to all ages and intended to bring folks together in a community spirited project. Photographers will be credited and win some great prizes and as another incentive Photographers were also invited to frame and sell their photographs at The Frog and The Hummingbird Co & Butterfield’s Roadhouse.

This particular Facebook site was Salli and Gabriel’s contribution to the area and a way to not only enhance awareness of their own Music and Art forum but likewise the richness and many activities of our region. The response was very exciting and there have been requests for another contest.

Photographs continue to be added to this Sopchoppy Wakulla County Photo Album and it is Salli and Gabriel’s hope that the album will continue to grow enabling people all over the country the opportunity to see the beauty of our region.

Salli stated, “This contest was truly just about the fun, about creating a nice representation of photographs of our area and about sharing the uniqueness of our region with potential visitors. It was so nice to see the enthusiasm of contestants and community members.”

On Saturday September 17th, 2011 The Frog and The Hummingbird Co & Butterfield’s Roadhouse will host a Free Night of Photography: The Sopchoppy Wakulla County Photography Awards Celebration that is Open to the Public and running from 5 to 10 PM at 118 Municipal Ave Corner of Rose St Sopchoppy Florida.
