June 18 – July 17, 2010
Opening Reception – Friday June 18, 6 – 10 pm
Good Citizen invites you to “liminal possession” featuring sculptural installation and new drawings by artist Soo Sunny Park. Park’s work are often interactive large scale sculptures and installations that explore the realms of physical and idealized space. Park re-utilizes manufactured products in unconventional ways to create sculptural forms, which are then combined with the natural forces of light and air to create an ephemeral experience for the viewer. Geometry, concepts of space and time, and the relationship to the physical body are explored through the manipulation of structure and pattern, resulting in an examination of the dialogue between logical and lyrical shapes and forms.
Park has shown extensively throughout the country and her work has been featured in numerous periodicals, including Sculpture Magazine and Art in America. Park is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell MFA Grant, Grand Prize winner of the 19th Annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition, and Helen Foster Barnett Prize from The National Academy Museum, New York. In 2001, she was awarded with the River Front Times "Best of 2001, Sculptor of St. Louis."
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Soo Sunny Park received her BFA in painting and sculpture from Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio followed by an MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. After a residency in Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, she worked in St. Louis as an installation artist and Lecturer at Washington University. Park currently teaches for Dartmouth College in New Hampshire as an Assistant Professor in the Studio Art Department.
