Sonia & Sadot, two experienced musicians from different musical and cultural backgrounds are bringing together a musical show of the US culture (Bluegrass), Mexican culture (Mariachi Bolero-Ranchero) and the culture they have created together. Within their exciting musical collaboration they have created original Bossa Novas, instrumentals and romantic music which includes world music elements - a creative melding that will bring people of diverse backgrounds together to a show that the whole family can enjoy.
Sonia Shell started playing guitar when she was 8 years old with a book called "learn guitar in 10 sessions". About a million sessions later she is still learning. She also studied cello and began banjo at age 15 on the condition that she practice cello an hour a day. She is still playing all 3 instruments. Sonia has played banjo in many of the local bluegrass bands including Sidesaddle, The All Girl Boys and Harmony Gritz. She has been teaching banjo and guitar lessons since 1983 and won several awards for her banjo playing. She has been playing with Sadot Canseco for 8 years, finally realizing her life-long dream of getting to play "Girl From Ipanema".
Sadot Canseco was born in Mexico City and began playing guitar by ear at age 9. When he was 18 he began his studies at Superior de Musica, a school which belongs to the National Institute of Fine Arts. Sadot has performed as a bass player and guitarist with many diverse acts in Mexico and the United States. He teaches private guitar lessons and music theory applied to guitar. Now he brings us his wonderful lush chords, rhythmic abilities and will share his love for the traditional romantic music of Mexico which he will perform with a full mariachi band... and the huge hat.
