The Songwriters’ Expo continues to celebrate the excellence and excitement of the Toronto music scene on April 27th with a diverse lineup of performing talents. Featured this month are DIN, Amy Campbell, Frank Patrick and special guest Joe Sbrocchi. The event will be hosted by Monique Barry, who will contribute a few tuneful moments of her own, accompanied by bandmates Marc Nadjiwan and Dave Buland. The show takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cadillac Lounge, 1296 Queen Street West (416-536-7717).
Founded, hosted and programmed by Monique Barry, funded by the Toronto Arts Council and the Songwriters Association of Canada, and sponsored by the Cadillac Lounge and Long & McQuade the Songwriters’ Expo is a showcase in its own league, designed for Toronto’s multi-layered music community. Held on a monthly basis and always on a Sunday, it provides a welcome opportunity for both established and rising new performers to unveil their work in a creative, synergistic environment. Designed to explore and exhibit the crafts of songwriting and musical performance, the Expo places no restrictions on style, genre, or interpretation. Each show encourages as much variety and versatility that can be strummed into an afternoon.
Launched in 1998, the Songwriters’ Expo made its first home at the Rex Hotel until 2001. The event has continued its evolution at the Cadillac Lounge, which serves Sunday brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This allows visitors the opportunity to enjoy a late mid-day meal before the performance or dinner with the show. There is never any cover charge for the Expo. Each show is a pay-what-you-can event, and any contribution results in an automatic entry into the show time raffle of CD’s by the featured performers.
