Dance and drum workshops will be led by internationally acclaimed Masters and geared towards adults and children of varying skill levels. Beginners are welcome!

There are also a number of free cultural workshops to provide a greater understanding and appreciation of Mandingue culture.

Join us first thing Saturday morning for free coffee and tea and learn the basics in Mandingue Culture 101.

Or get your hands on a djembe drum in Djembe Discovery and learn more about this amazing instrument.

Or try a dance class and learn something about the traditional movements of Guinée, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Dance and Percussion workshops continue, but take some time to learn more about the culture in one of today’s Cultural Workshops.

Mudcloth, indigo and bassan. The fabrics of West Africa are wearable art, often telling stories about Mandingue culture through symbols. Learn how distinguish quality goods from imitation prints in the West African Fabrics workshop led by Ibrahim Barry.

Have you ever wanted to wear an African headwrap? Let Naza show you how. Bring your own piece of African fabric or purchase some for $10—you’ll leave the workshop with enough fabric to practice and wear at home.

What to Wear for the Workshops

Clothing should be loose and comfortable for both drum and dance. For dance, women may wear a lappa (a piece of African cloth wrapped around the hips like a sarong), but workout clothing is also acceptable.

Dance workshops will be done in bare feet for both men and women.
