Something Wonderful: An Evening of Broadway with Deborah Voigt May 19, 2011

The Collegiate Chorale presents its 2011 Spring Concert Something Wonderful: An Evening of Broadway with Deborah Voigt, with featured guest artist Paolo Szot, conducted by Ted Sperling with the American Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 7pm at Carnegie Hall. Deborah Voigt, one of the world’s favorite international opera luminaries, will turn her estimable vocal talents toward the world of musical theater to provide us with a delightful evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Gershwin, Kern, Sondheim and others. Teaming up with Ted Sperling, one of Broadway’s foremost conductors, arrangers and directors, Ms. Voigt will prove her flawless ability to move and captivate audiences in this musical genre as well. See her strut her Broadway stuff with The Chorale just before she begins her widely anticipated debut in "Annie Get Your Gun" at Glimmerglass. Paulo Szot, critically acclaimed baritone who starred last season in both "The Nose" at the Met and "South Pacific" on Broadway, will join in this Special Event.

The benefit will begin with the concert listed above, immediately followed by a cocktail reception in the Rose Museum and a seated dinner and dessert in the Rohatyn Room. And before the evening's final curtain is drawn, the enchanting Roger Rees will entice you to bid on some very special items in a lively auction that will benefit The Chorale's education and artistic programs. The evening will honor The Kurt Weill Foundation, which has provided generous support to The Chorale over the years. In 2009, funding from the Foundation supported the company’s presentation of "The Firebrand of Florence" and its most recent award made it possible for The Collegiate Chorale to present and record the January performances of "Knickerbocker Holiday" with Victor Garber and Kelli O’Hara at Alice Tully Hall.

The company’s 2010/2011 Season began with Brahms’ "Alto Rhapsody", "Op.53" and "A German Requiem" at Carnegie Hall in October and continued with "Knickerbocker Holiday" in January at Alice Tully Hall and "We Remember Them: Choral Music from the Camps and the Ghettos" in March at Central Synagogue.
