Hidden from Nazis, neighbors and officials by a Ukrainian family, a young woman survives the rampant betrayal and horror of the Holocaust. Fifty years later, when a simple gold ring from her youth comes back into her life, the repressed memories and pain of that perilous time is revived. Something That Belongs To You tells the story of a Jewish family torn apart by confronting the collective and individual guilt brought on by their matriarch’s struggle with good and evil. The play, set in the relative comfort of contemporary Philadelphia and the terror-filled times of the Ukraine in 1944, follows three generations of families looking to find internal peace in a world where such external horrors can and do happen.
Dr. Roald Hoffmann, a Nobel Prize laureate in chemistry, is also a writer of poems, essays, nonfiction, television scripts and plays, where he has carved out his own land between science, poetry, and philosophy. His plays have been produced throughout the United States and Canada.
