On May 4, 5 & 6, nearly 400 Somerville artists will get their art on during one of the largest single weekend open studios event in the nation.
Somerville is bursting at the seams with art! Fashion to film to interactive art, there is something for everyone. This weekend continues to grow to epic proportions when the art loving public opens their mind as artist open their doors - home studios to commercial buildings such as Joy Street, Central Street, Vernon Street, Mad Oyster, Brickbottom, and Mud Flat Studios.
This year we will be trying something new - Opt-in Friday night! About 25% of the studios will be open on Friday night.
This FREE citywide event showcases both the established and emerging artists working across a broad spectrum of fine art styles and craft – painting, sculpture, photography, fiber, jewelry, clay, glass and furniture – anything you might want to explore is here in the ‘Ville.

WHAT’S NEW
SOS PRESENTS “BEYOND THE PATTERN” • SATURDAY MAY 5 DAVIS SQUARE THEATER | 255 ELM ST. | 6:30PM
A live runway presentation showcasing the dazzlingly diverse work of local artists in fashion and wearable art. On view will be towering wearable sculptures, quirky vintage-inspired bridal ensembles, sumptuous hand-painted silks, custom clothing sustainably made by local artisans. For The Young Designers’ Challenge, Somerville public school students, with the assistance of professional artists, are turning found objects into wearable art, creating fashions from such unlikely materials. Admission is free.
SPOKEN WORD on the TROLLEY • SUNDAY MAY 6 The Somerville Open Studios Spoken Word trolley will include 15 performers spread across six hours. The performances will begin at noon, last an hour each, and include: stand-up comedians, performance poets, award-winning story-tellers, fiction writers, and a playwright directing a play written just for the trolley.
SOS at NIGHT • OPT-IN FRIDAY NIGHT • MAY 4 6-9PM CITYWIDE Get a jump start on the festivities on Friday and join select artists and studios as they kick off the art-filled weekend.
SCAT’S SOMERVILLE OPEN CINEMA FESTIVAL • MAY 5 + 6 SCAT | 90 UNION SQUARE | NOON - 6PM
Somerville Community Access Television (SCAT) presents: The Somerville Open Cinema Festival showcases the multitude of fantastic film artists who create their work in Massachusetts. This mini film festival will feature short (under 10 minutes) films and videos made in Massachusetts (especially Somerville). All genres such as documentary, narrative, experimental, animated, etc.
