Sol Roots headlines the 4th Annual Okras Crawfish Fest! This is a Creole-style Block Party to Include Live Music and Crawfish Boil!
Sol is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has performed around the world with roots and r&b legends, and creates a unique mix of funk, blues, rock. His CD Freedom includes musicians that that toured with Jah Works, Corey Harris, Ana Popovic, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Hobex, and more. He has been on bills with New Orleans funk legends like Walter Wolfman Washington, Jon Cleary, Eric Lindell, and more.
“Sol's playing has been described as “musical glue," holding together many grooves and personalities. He has backed up legendary artists like Taj Mahal and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, opened for Robert Randolph, Wood Brothers, and has played with more obscure artists who have had unique perspectives and sounds. Though it all, he has learned many valuable lessons and is still able to hold on to the one thing that ties us all spiritually to one another — music.” - Jeff Reid - The Beat Magazine
Singer songwriter Zac Quintana and other DC area musicians will be featured as well through out the day.
Whether or not he took advice from famed New Orleans Chef Emerill Lagasse, Okra's owners decided to "Kick it up a Notch" this year by adding 400 more pounds of crawfish than last year's event.
A quarter-ton of live Louisiana "mud bugs" will be shipped in the morning of the fest. The crew will cook up a cajun creole crawfish concoction that will consist of boiled corn, potatoes, artichokes, Andouille Sausage, secret seasonings and 500 pounds of live crawfish!
There is no charge for the event and seating will be available outdoors on a first come basis.
An outside bar will serve plenty of cajun cocktails. And if crawfish don't appeal to your appetite, you can also enjoy Jambalaya, Gumbo, Andouille Sausage Po' Boy or Blackened Chicken Salad Sandwiches.
