Million Fishes Gallery presents
Soft Monkey Puzzles
New works by Eden Veaudry
Eden Veaudry is a Victoria, British Columbia based cross-disciplinary artist who creates optimistic art that addresses her experiences in the daily dream landscape while inspiring the viewer with a greater curiosity and appreciation of the strange, organic forms that make up the everyday world.
Veaudry works in a wide range of media including drawing, painting, textiles, and film. She is primarily interested in expressing everyday sensations by manipulating her immediate impressions of the shapes, colors, and moods she finds around her. Her work is driven by a need to re-imagine the many ways in which the natural world and one's own body may combine to form a new, emotional entity. She believes in the concept of the remix, and frequently re-works a single idea in a variety of media. Often a drawing will evolve into a mask, or a crocheted garment will reappear in a watercolour painting inspired by an embroidery.
For this exhibition she is interested in carving the landscape down to its roots; whittling it down to a juxtaposition of dreamlike, organic forms and abstracted northern imagery. On her daily walks along the shoreline she collects an assortment of souvenirs, which she carries home to use as models for her crocheted 'drawings'. Driftwood, seashells, seaweed, and stones lose their original connotations as they are blown up, re-modelled out of wool, and imagined as armour to protect the human body.
Eden Veaudry has exhibited in various venues internationally, including: Ministry of Casual Living, Victoria BC; Department of Safety, Anacortes WA; Monastiraki, Montreal QC; Fifty Fifty Arts Collective, Victoria BC; Hope Lounge, Brooklyn NY; and Sublime Cafe, Toronto ON.
Million Fishes is a Mission District-based collective composed of a diverse group of artists dedicated to collaborative, creative exploration. Million Fishes creates an environment in which artists develop the concepts and skills involved in producing art and sharing it with others. Through presenting and making accessible the programs’ new emerging artwork and ongoing projects, Million Fishes is a resource to local communities in the Mission District and the diverse, extended communities of our resident artists.
