SocialEats Presents: Cuisine of Ca D'Zan February 8, 2007

SocialEats is a collection of 'open' dinner parties, run by hosts with a passion for food and entertaining. Hosts prepare and share a meal with guests who show up with an appetite. Anyone is invited to attend. It's a great place to meet interesting and fun people and enjoy a great meal.

John Ringling was a founding brother of the Ringling Brothers Circus in the late 1800's. In the early 1900's he and his wife Mable settled in Sarasota (the winter resting home for the Ringling Brothers Circus) and built a Venetian gothic mansion which they named Ca D'Zan. On a recent visit to Florida, I visited Ca D'Zan and picked up a cookbook of Floridian dishes inspired by the mansion and lives of John and Mable Ringling. For this meal, I will prepare one of the menus I found in this book.
