THE SNOWMAN IN MY WINDOW”
Play by Tony Yajko adapted to a musical
The BINGHAMTON THEATER ORGAN SOCIETY’S 2008 Christmas Show brings a gracious SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS theme based on a play by Broome County playwright TONY YAJKO. “THE SNOWMAN IN MY WINDOW” tells the story of three life-size Toys in a large city store window (think FOWLERS - now Boscov’s! ) and how the Christmas Spirit brought forth by Santa Claus saves our Snowman from melting in holiday loneliness. The show brings back fond memories of downtown Binghamton including a guest appearance by IRENE MARTIN, the lady who (30-50 years ago) played an organ, on a rotating stage, in the lobby of Fowlers every Christmas Season. Irene STILL plays the organ for St. Mary’s church in downtown Binghamton.
Using the Robert Morton Theater Organ as the ‘orchestra’ for the entire show, MASTER THEATER ORGANIST RICHARD VAN AUKEN provides the musical accompaniment for the entire show including a SILENT FILM (made in Ithaca in about 1912) featuring many young ladies, dressed to the “9’s” taking a horse drawn sleigh through the countryside. They get bombarded with snowballs by local energy-infested young gentlemen(?)! Richard also creates the ORGAN-ized Stage Orchestra for the other performers in the Show including the HELENE YELVERTON DANCE STUDIO who will be creating mesmerizing dance routines to match the spirit of the holiday, the BTOS COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS CHORUS singing the favorites of the season and SANTA CLAUS played with the perfected skill of GREGORY KEELER, WSKG’s main radio voice!
