Featuring a dynamic fusion of several alternative stylistic touchstones, Snow Patrol's compositions combine songwriting aptitude with guitar rock's sharpest strains. Originally from Northern Ireland, Gary Lightbody (vocals, guitar) and Mark McClelland (bass, keyboards) first got together in Dundee, Scotland, where they were studying, prior to the addition of John Quinn (drums), who completed the lineup. Signed to the U.K.'s Jeepster label in 1998, they released their debut album, Songs for Polar Bears, in August of that same year. The record was a large success across the U.K., where they also gained a large fanbase for their live show. The British trio graduated soon after, and decided to move from Dundee to Glasgow in late 2000. Their second full-length, When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up, was released in April 2001. Producer Chris Lord-Alge signed on for the release of Final Straw, which appeared stateside in April 2004. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges, All Music Guide
In 2005, Glasgow-based Snow Patrol toured with U2, appeared at Live 8 at both Hyde Park and Scotland and somehow still found time to write and record a new album. Their May 2006 release, Eyes Open, is the follow-up to their phenomenally successful Final Straw, and it has exceeded all expectations. The album went straight to #1 on the album charts in the UK and Ireland and the first singles "You're All I Have" and "Hands Open" are receiving massive airplay on both sides of the Atlantic.
Snow Patrol will be playing a handfull of Australian shows in February 2007.
The three night jaunt kicks off in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne and will see the band playing their largest headline shows down-under to date. They are also delighted to announce that Australia’s own Howling Bells and The Red Riders will be supporting the Patrol at all three shows.
