Think of it as for “DancerFaceBook” or “MySmuinSpace” or perhaps “BalletFriendster”. Young fans of dance in general --- and Smuin Ballet in specific – are invited to attend a Smuin Ballet Photo Shoot and online contest on Friday, February 8, 3pm ‘til 6pm, at the Lesher Arts Center in Walnut Creek (1601 Civic Drive). Contest entrants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, or legal guardian.

Between now and the afternoon of February 7, contestants are asked to set up their own “MySpace”, “Friendster” or “Facebook” pages about Smuin Ballet (or contribute to their own existing social networking pages) and submit a short essay (100 – 200 words) about “why dance is important to me” or “why I love Smuin Ballet.”

Contestants must email the link to their online site to amy@smuinballet.org by 12noon, Thursday, February 7.

A maximum of 10 winners will be selected by Smuin’s corps of young dancers to come in for a free onstage photo shoot. Additionally, winning essays/on-line sites will be linked to the Smuin website AND free tickets will be awarded to the winners for the 2008 Smuin Ballet season.

“We dance onstage but we talk about it online,” said Dwight Hutton, Smuin Managing Director. “Smuin Ballet is comprised of the brightest and best, youngest and most-connected dancers in the world. This contest is just another way to say ‘welcome’ to the online generation of dance lovers.”
