SLC Science Pub - "The Urban Jungle: Everything but the Monkeys" August 26, 2009

The SLC Science Pub hosts fun science-themed evenings where anyone and everyone is welcome to come hear about and discuss fascinating developments in science with local Utah scientists. No science background required - just bring your curiousity!

The next Science Pub will feature Dr. Fred Adler from the University of Utah speaking about "The Urban Jungle: Everything but the Monkeys":

When most people walk around a city, they notice buildings, people,and maybe the occasional lawn.  But hidden beneath that surface is a remarkable level of biodiversity, featuring birds, plants, and mammals (absent the monkeys, at least here in Salt Lake).  Dr. Adler will talk about some of the factors maintaining this diversity and the sorts of species that do well when inundated by people, and some of the challenges this presents for ecological thinking.
