When your wallet's tight and the environment is gasping "help me breathe," how can you dress up your home and give it a lift while keeping your conscience? Attend the Sit+Sip home-accessories swap on March 7, from 2-5 p.m. at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle.
"A swap is a form of bartering that never goes out of vogue," said interior designer Sara Eizen, co-host of Sit+Sip. "In this case, it will be like shopping in your best friend's home plus you'll be able to choose accessories from 150 other homes as well."
Now is the perfect time to clear out your closet, living room, bedrooms, and office. Bring in your blue pillows to make room for purple ones, update your lampshades, dress your couch with a different colored throw, and find interesting candle holders to brighten up your bedroom.
The cost is $15 in advance and $20 at the door to shop at the Sit + Sip Home Accessories Swap. You must bring a minimum of five items to swap (no toilet brushes please). Items must be no taller than 4 feet. Items left at the end of the swap will be taken to Seattle Children's Hospital Thrift Stores.
"All of us want affordable ways to keep our homes updated and stylish," said interior designer Piper Salogga, co-host of Sit+Sip. "Part of the fun is the thrill of the hunt and finding the unexpected, with a dash of socializing thrown in."
Referees will be on site to keep the chicken scratches to a minimum, as well as volunteers to help patrons carry their goods in and out. As a bonus, guest will receive coupons for consignment stores around the city, Seattle vendors will display green accessories, and refreshments will be served.
$15 in advance and $20 at the door.
