Ahoy and welcome aboard! Join Meet Market Adventures and other single sailors as we learn the basics of sailing on the 75-foot Schooner "North Wind." Before leaving the dock, the captain will separate us into smaller groups so we can better experience the Intro to Sailing and learn the basic history of the North Wind and pilot schooners.
In small groups, we will have an opportunity to travel from station to station and learning each aspect of sailing.
The stations include:
Helm Station - talk to the captain about basic river navigation and experience the thrill of being at the helm of the North Wind.
Sails Station - learn about the elements of lift and learn the basic principles of sailing, help raise the sails and learn how to secure the lines.
Man Overboard Drill - take your position and work together as a team practicing what to do in an emergency should someone fall overboard at sea (just so you know, we do this using a life preserver and not a real person:)!
There will also be a second captain on hand dedicated to answering any questions you may have regarding sailing or what was learned!
Please wear comfortable clothing, sunscreen and bring lunch. BYO wine and beer (cans or plastic bottles only). MMA will provide soft drinks and water.
A portion of the cost will be donated to Philadelphia City Sail, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit educational organization that inspires Philadelphia area youth to value themselves and their education, with a focus on reaching underserved populations.

DIRECTIONS: This adventure will meet at the "North Wind" on the pier behind the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Independence Seaport Museum at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia.
