"The no-fuss décor---just blond wood panels, elegantly lit at night---and the cooking of young chef Julia Wolfson draw a strong entertainment industry lunch crowd. Wolfson trained with Rocco DiSpirito, Eric Ripert and Dan Barber. But every chef's style is unique, and she likes to prepare her dishes with sour and pickled flavors. Though they can be light and refreshing, we recommend that you consider the menu carefully to balance the tastes of your meal. The white corn and radish salad with duck confit, pickled red onions and cilantro; the yellowfin tuna tartare with radish, cucumber, fennel salad and peach-chili vinaigrette; or the crispy braised pork belly with roasted shallots, pickled cherries and charred grapefruit are perfect examples of Wolfson's love affair with sourness. For a milder taste, try the baby beets with fromage blanc, the green and yellow squash lasagna or the fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil pizza. When moving on to the entrées, the wood oven-roasted halibut is seasoned with a brown butter lemon vinaigrette; the sea trout with a bacon vinaigrette; the beef or turkey burger comes with sharp cheddar, accompanied by house-made paprika-dusted potato chips and pickled market vegetables; and the braised pork shoulder comes with pickled (yes, again) okra-arugula salad. The chicken breast, on the contrary, is sweetened with apricot chutney, and pan-roasted duck breast with honey. The winning dessert is the warm bitter chocolate torte with fleur de sel caramel. The rustic peach tart with caramel sauce and whipped mascarpone is also a good choice. The wine list favors French wines, followed by Italy and California. Since tablecloths are disappearing more and more in dining rooms, we are pleased to see that is not the case at AMMO---named after its owner, Amy Sweeney." - Gayot.com
