May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

It’s a great way to help the cause, while enjoying some laughs and original music says Steve DePena, producer/director and writer of “The Ground Floor”. “Sit back and enjoy some local talent strut their stuff”.

On Monday May 12, 7:15 pm at The Unurban Coffeehouse, Gerry Fialka will host an evening of original shorts from the CableTV show “The Ground Floor” by Filmmaker Steve DePena. Singer/Songwriter/Comedienne Kathy Leonardo will open the show with her original sassy blues as well as star in many of the shorts that will be shown that night.

To bring attention and some laughter to a very serious subject, Steve DePena and Kathy Leonardo have agreed to donate 50% of all DVD and CD Sales to The American Cancer Society.

As always, Leonardo will be singing with great gusto and humor as she recounts her loves and unusual happenings in her life with every song she sings. Having worked on Broadway and performed years of stand up comedy, Kathy will surely make you laugh. Audiences have grown to expect a full rounded musical and comedic performance from Kathy Leonardo.

DePena and Leonardo have long been friends and cohorts in the comedy and music world. “Steve is amazing to work with” laughs Kathy, “I love filming on the streets of LA with him, you never know what to expect”. “The fact that Steve incorporates the reactions of a complete stranger at any given take, gives me a lot to work with as an actor. He allows me to improv as much as I want and we have a great time doing it”. Kathy Leonardo, originally from NY, met Steve DePena, another native New Yorker in Venice California. They have teamed up with some incredibly talented actors to create a very funny sketch comedy show.

Come on down to the Unurban Coffeehouse, 3301 Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica, (near Sawtelle, across from Trader Joes) 90404, on Monday May 12th at 7:15 pm. Enjoy a latte and some tasty treats.
