Singapore’s Early Zoos Travelling Exhibition April 4, 2013

The exhibition will explore the history of private zoos that existed in Singapore since the 19th century and showcase zoos that were established prior to 1973 (when The Singapore Zoo was established) as well as private collectors. The exhibition will also feature rare photographs of the Punggol Zoo at Punggol from Mr Lawrence Basapa, grandson of the late Mr W. L. S. Basapa (1893 – 1943) who set up the zoo. It will also feature an activity wall title “If I Ran A Zoo” which invites visitors to create animals they would like to showcase if they ran a zoo as well as photograph section where visitors could take photographs with animal cutouts which could be reconfigured to form different animals.
