Writer and director Yukichi Matsumoto and his award winning company Ishinha create an epic story about a “Sea Road” linking up the cultural, social and aesthetic histories of the peoples of the islands bordering the Pacific Rim: from the South Sea islands through Southeast Asia up to Taiwan ending in Japan. Ishinha is famed for creating unforgettable theatre – meticulously planned outdoor stages, unique bird’s eye views, unconventional choreography played out on epic scale. Unique too is their vocal soundscape – Jan Jan Opera language, a kind of street “rap music” and the street language of Osaka where the company was born.
The performance opens the Festival and not only marks Ishinha’s first appearance in Singapore, but also its first showing outside of Japan. Not to be missed!
