Simon Kidgits Club Book Blast March 19, 2011

Coral Square Mall is partnering with the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) to promote literacy at its “Simon Kidgits Club Book Blast” event that will take place on Saturday, March 19 from 1 – 3 p.m. Shoppers are encouraged to donate a new or gently used book to Guest Services now through the date of the event. The donated books will support the goals of the FDOE’s “Just Read, Florida!” initiative and will be distributed through the Florida Education Foundation to Maplewood Elementary School in Coral Springs and Women in Distress.

This year’s “Simon Kidgits Club Book Blast” welcomes children of all ages to celebrate the joys of reading with award-winning author Lisa McCourt (I Love You, Stinky Face) as well as Pablo Cartaya (Tina Cocolina: Queen of the Cupcakes) and Dani Lynn (The Fairytale Project). Each author will provide engaging activities that will help bring their children’s stories to life.

Radio Disney will be also be on-hand at Coral Square Mall’s “Simon Kidgits Club Book Blast” with additional games, prizes and giveaways.

Coral Square is one of several Simon Malls participating in the FDOE’s “Just Read, Florida!” initiative, a statewide reading program that prioritizes reading in Florida's public schools and among all the community groups and volunteer organizations that support them. Other participating malls include Dadeland Mall (Miami), Melbourne Square (Melbourne), Miami International Mall, Seminole Towne Center (Sanford), The Falls (Miami) and Tyrone Square (St. Petersburg).

The “Simon Kidgits Club Book Blast” event is free. Families can sign up for the Kidgits Club, during regular mall hours, for a membership fee of $5. Membership includes a Kidgits Club membership card and T-shirt, scheduled entertainment and activities for families, a Birthday Club (including birthday card and gift redemption certificate), unique programs and offers, discounts and a quarterly newsletter.
