The Silverado Children’s Center, a non-profit center sponsored by the Silverado Modjeska Rec & Parks District, is hosting their Annual Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Irvine Lake on Santiago Canyon Road. The Silverado Children’s Center serves families in and around Silverado and Modjeska Canyons as well as the surrounding communities.
Our community recently survived the Santiago Fire and there is much work to be done to get our community back on its feet. Our Chili Cook-Off fundraiser is to help us "CREATE A LEGACY" for our community by working together with families to rebuild and repair the Modjeska Community Center backyard and to help us purchase a new safer playground for the Silverado Children's Center. Projects we started before the arson set fire ravaged our community. At this year’s Chili Cook-Off our hats go off to the local firefighters who saved our school, who will be receiving an award from the children. A panel comprised of prominent members of the community, media representatives and possibly a few local politicians, will decide which chili competitors deserve the prize!
Come spend the afternoon with us at beautiful Irvine Lake on April 20, try the chili and vote for the best! Visit craft and vendor booths while enjoying several musical guests. There will be children’s games and activities, great food and beverages. Tour the lake by boat or foot and bring your friends and family!
