First Baptist’s 100th anniversary picnic has just been a smashing success, as we re-join the ladies in the early 1970’s. 2008 pastor’s wife Edith (Carol Irvin), and banker’s wife Vera (Sharyn Tadolini) are joined by Weslie Webster as church organist May Ellen and Michele Colvin as former Vegas showgirl Olene. When a small problem intervenes (a bolt of lightning!) the ladies plan to raise spirits (and funds), with a talent show! Change is in the air as diverse women challenge each other on an inspiring journey filled with laughs, loss and lots of love.
SHOWTIME also features SMOKE’S Mama Vera Lauren Marshal as “Assistant Deputy Sheriff” and Mayor’s wife Lucille, who patrols Main Street in a red Caddy, complete with siren. Her daughter- in- law Annie, her new husband in Vietnam, is played by Cookeville’s Holly Hughes, caught amid the seasoned women who run the town and the church. Associate Producer Nicole Begue (May Ellen in‘08’s “First Baptist”), directs the show prior to her upcoming role as Guinevere in Lerner and Loewe’s CAMELOT in autumn ’09.
