What would you write for beatboxer Shlomo's mouth to match the might of a world class orchestra?
Southbank Centre Artist in Residence and beatboxer Shlomo works with one of the UK's hottest composing talents Anna Meredith and a specially created orchestra made up of Southbank Centre's Resident Orchestras - London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment and Philharmonia Orchestra - to perform the world premiere of the bold and exciting Concerto for Beatboxer and Orchestra.
In this Southbank Centre-commission, the human voice is an instrument like any other as beatboxers are embedded amongst the orchestra. Acclaimed conductor Andre de Ridder of sinfonia ViVA leads the musicians in this groundbreaking new work.
The first half of the concert sees performances from the individuals involved in the Concerto, including acclaimed cellist and Southbank Centre Artist in Residence Olly Coates. The piece is then played twice, between which there is a short question and answer session when you can ask Shlomo and Anna Meredith about the composition.
