Wanted: Missing Person
Name: Shirley Valentine
Occupation: Wife and mother of two
Mrs. Joe Bradshaw, 42 year-old Liverpudlian and the former Shirley Valentine, is a working-class housewife who has fallen prey to a life of regiment and duty. Through years of complacency and acceptance, Shirley's identity has yielded to the expectations of her roles at home and in society. When Shirley's best friend Jane excitedly buys two tickets for a holiday in Greece, this home-body learns that a whole new world awaits her if only she is brave enough to follow her heart…
Shirley Valentine, a poignant comedy written by Willy Russell (the author of Educating Rita and Blood Brothers ), enjoyed a lengthy run on both Broadway and London's West End, and in the late 80's became the base of a popular film adaption.
The one-woman cast of MTM's production is sensationally played by local actress Dorrie Board, recently seen in Willamette Stage Company's hit, String of Pearls, and Majestic Theatre Management's summer-series presentation of Persuasion.
This production is directed by Jonathan Pedersen of MTM's recent productions of Chicago: the Musical, Jane Austen's Persuasion, and All the Great Books (abridged).
