One of Jazz St. Louis’ 2011-2012 residency artists, Sherman Irby has a sweet but driving alto saxophone sound and style that are bop-derived, but definitely all his own. A member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, he plays with great passion and skill on both ballads and up-tempo pieces and is clearly one of the newer players worth listening to as he grows and evolves as an artist.
“It would be hard to conjure up a more joyful example of seriously swinging jazz that sounds like a great lost classic from the heyday of hard bop.” – All About Jazz.
Two sets starting at 7:30 and 9:30 nightly.
