There’s an old saying in the Chinese performing arts community—“one minute on stage, ten years of labor off-stage.”

Every year, Shen Yun Performing Arts stages an all-new production with new dance numbers, original orchestral music, and fresh solo pieces. But before the curtain goes up, an extensive collaboration effort plays out in the off-season.

Dance numbers must be choreographed and their music composed. Hundreds of sets of costumes, hairpieces, shoes, and props must be conceived and handcrafted. The state-of-the-art digital projection backdrops must be researched, designed, and redesigned.

Then, all that is left is for hundreds of Shen Yun artists to work around the clock, rehearsing for thousands of hours, to create an evening of delight and beauty for which the company has become famous.
