Magic, romance and comedy wait in the forest outside Athens. This is one of Shakespeare’s most enduring and delightful comedies, under the direction of Brian Haney. A quartet of young lovers find themselves lost in a forest filled with spirits and spells while a troop of bumbling actors, led by the inimitable Nick Bottom, try (and hilariously fail) to stage a play. Adding to the confusion, the mischievous sprite Puck whisks about with a magic potion causing all the wrong people — and even some deities — to fall in love with each other. For 19 years, the Shakespeare Youth Performance Workshop has helped both actors and audiences to demystify the Bard, introducing them to the power, humanity and humor of Shakespeare’s stories and language. As always, the focus of the workshop is on the development of acting skills and the formation of an ensemble based on trust and collaboration. TitM’s commitment to ensemble acting means that everyone gets to participate in the final production. All students interested in the theatre arts, from beginners to seasoned veterans, will find the right level of challenge in this class. Classes run from October through February, culminating in a main stage production at the Albuquerque Little Theatre. Midsummer Night’s Dream is offered to students ages 10 to 18. Tuition: fees for 4 month class is $90 per month.
