In a community-wide celebration, the Shaker Arts Council (SHAC), co-sponsored by the City of Shaker Heights, presents the 3rd annual Summer Solstice Festival of Music. Featured will be live music, street performances, henna tattoo artists, taro card readers, and distinctive crafts from local artisans. Children's activities include face painting and drum making in preparation for the drum circle and lighting ceremony. A variety of food and beverages from the Shaker Town Center shops and nearby eateries will be for sale.
Main stage performances begin at 5:15 with the young sounds of the Flip Side followed by the hot Latin rhythms of Rolando Pizana y sus Rhumberos, at 6:15 and the inspirational groove of The Prayer Warriors at 7:30.
Everyone is invited to join the rhythmic Cindy Hill in a drum circle around the bonfire at 8:30 and participate in a New Orleans-style procession. Closing out the evening is Blue Lunch, swing with a touch of country and blues.
WHEN: Saturday, June 24, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., rain or shine.
WHERE: The Shaker Heights Community Colonnade at 3450 Lee Rd. and Van Aken Blvd. It is easily accessible from 480 (Northfield Road North) or 271(Chagrin Blvd West) to Van Aken Blvd and turning left on Lee.
ADMISSION: Entertainment is free and open to the public.
