Renewing the Troost Corridor with Music, Dancing, and Live Performances
Take Saturday off - Party all day in Midtown for a good cause!
A local nonprofit group will host its first street festival titled Shake
Your Booty for the Creative Mind Community on Saturday, October 29, 2005
at Troost Avenue between Linwood and 31st Street. All of Greater Kansas
City is invited to come celebrate hope and diversity with neighbors,
artists, performers, educators, and community leaders. The event will
feature food, music, and dancing for all, a costume contest, art
workshops, storytelling, family portraits, face painting, pumpkin
carving for kids of all ages, vendors and more. The ??Beware All Stylebiters?
live paint crew with create a mural throughout the day to mark the launching of
this collaborative effort to restore the corridor. Shake Your Booty for the
Creative Mind Community runs from Noon till Midnight. The suggested
donation is $5.
Uplifting, family-friendly entertainers are scheduled, including DJs
Clockwerk, DJ Syke, DJ Rico, Hank, Lady J, DJ AJ2, The Beat Broker,
Midtown Music Group, Joel Kraft, Emma Feel, Human Crop Circles, James
Christos, Negro Sko AKA Dante Everglade, Brother of Moses, The
Hymnlayas, Djembe Kaan, Vesuvius, B-Boys and B-Girls of KC, Shelly Nolan
and Guest, Central High School Drill Team, and Buggin?.
The Creative Mind Community Arts Center is a not-for-profit community
renewal project located at 3109 Troost Avenue in Midtown which
specializes in applying the arts and humanities as real-world solutions
to local realities. Proceeds from the event will be used toward the
completion of renovations at 3109 Troost Avenue and the creation of a
collaborative community effort to rediscover the beauty of the Troost
Corridor.
